See a breathtaking panorama of the city from the best viewing point, “the Pearl of Danube” is a World Heritage Site. One of the most beautiful locations in the world with the River Danube, hills and valleys on the Buda side and the flat, low-lying Pest on the other.
Walk on the medieval streets of the Castle District in Buda which is also part of the World Heritage Site. While you admire the Baroque castle, which was the residence of the Hungarian monarchs for 700 years, a unique 1000 yard long Labyrinth lies under your feet. See the tombs of members of the Habsburg family associated with Hungary in the Habsburg Crypt. Have a relaxing afternoon at the Szechenyi Baths, Europe’s largest spa baths.
Visit one of the most celebrated sites of the events of the 1848 Revolution, the Hungarian National Museum. The museum covers the political history of Hungary. The best place to discover more about the 18-19th century Hungary and the relationship with Austria. Taste the Habsburgs’s favourite drink and food in a traditional Coffee House–Queen Elizabeth’s favourite, the Eszterhazy cake. Your tour also includes a visit to the Zwack Unicum Heritage Visitor Centre, the factory which made a unique drink, the UNICUM, to the Habsburg Emperor.
The 250-year old Baroque Royal Palace was a loved royal residence of Emperor Franz Joseph and his royal consort Queen Elizabeth, affectionately called Sissi by the Hungarians. Highlights of the day include a stunning Horse Show – archery on horseback, jumping through fire, horse display of “Queen Elizabeth” in costume, sitting side-saddle, the famous Puszta five – when a horseman drives five galloping horses!
The Danube Bend offers some of the country’s finest landscapes, where the river passes between the hills and turns south. On your trip you will see the picturesque town of Szentendre, Visegrad with its Medieval Castle and Esztergom, the seat of the archbishop of Esztergom, the primate of the Hungarian Catholic Church. The cathedral is the largest church in the country.
Visit to the Hungarian Parliament, an icon of Hungary. It is the seat of the Hungarian Parliament and government offices and also provides place for the Holy Crown and Royal Insignia. After the visit enjoy your free time in the centre of Budapest : try another spa or shop at the “Grand Market Hall”, the impressive market hall – or just look inside for the atmosphere.
